Submissions for Our 2025 Anthology are open!

Submissions are open for our 2025 anthology, BRAVE NEW GIRLS: TALES OF GIRLS WHO INVENT AND IMAGINE! As with the previous ones, this is a charity project, with proceeds from sales being donated to the Society of Women Engineers scholarship fund. So we're looking for volunteer authors willing to donate their stories to make this book happen (trust us, we aren't making any money either). Contributing authors will each receive a complimentary paperback copy. And each story will be paired with a black-and-white illustration.

The submissions criteria are below:
  • WORD COUNT: Between 2,500 and 10,000 words
  • GENRE: Science fiction (any subgenre... space opera, superhero, steampunk, cyberpunk, solarpunk, dieselpunk, biopunk, decopunk, atompunk, whateverpunk...)
  • READING LEVEL: 5th grade (think the early Harry Potter books)
  • Main character should be a teen girl (14-18) who's into science/technology/engineering/math (mechanic, engineer, hacker, science-loving student etc.) whose skills are central to the story (e.g. using science to solve a mystery, hacking the bad guy's computer to save the day, fixing a broken-down starship...)
  • Content should be fairly G-rated (PG tops), since we're aiming for a kid-friendly lower YA audience (something parents and grandparents would feel comfortable giving to their tween daughter/granddaughter). So no gratuitous violence, no sex, no f-bombs or s-bombs. Biblical swearing (e.g. hell, damn) and made-up swearing (e.g. gorram, frak) are fine.
  • Story should be stand-alone. It can be part of an existing universe (that you have rights to, e.g. another of your books / series), but should make sense to someone who hasn't read anything else from that world.
  • No cliffhangers please... our readers don't like them
  • We want stories about all kinds of teens! BRAVE NEW GIRLS is trans-inclusive and encourages stories about kids from under-represented backgrounds of all kinds.
Deadline: January 21, 2025.
